Frequently Asked Questions

  • How will I provide my tax documents?
We provide you with a secure data portal online. This portal is protected by 256-bit encryption, allowing you to upload sensitive information easily and with peace of mind.
  • How do I get started with Collab CPAs?
To get started, click on "Let’s Collab" on the home page, fill out the form, and provide as many details as possible. Our CPAs will contact you shortly after that.
  • What types of returns do you prepare?
We can prepare federal and state tax returns for every type. The most common return types include Form 1040 and Form 1040-NR (Individuals), Form 1065 (Partnerships), Form 1120S (Subchapter S Corporations), and Form 1120 (Corporations). We can also prepare gift, trust, estate, and foreign tax returns as needed.
  • What is your standard turnaround time for tax returns?
Our standard turnaround time is ten (10) business days after we receive your completed organizer (questionnaire) and tax documents. However, we understand that sometimes time is of the essence, so we also offer an expedited service option. Expedited services carry a surcharge. Please get in touch with us for a quote.
  • Will you e-file my returns, or will I have to mail them?
We e-file all tax returns. However, sometimes the IRS and states cannot accept an e-filed return. In those instances, we will mail you a packet to be signed and mailed to the respective agency.
  • Where are you located?
We are a 100% virtual organization with members across the United States. This flexible structure allows us to find the most experienced accountants and professionals and helps us better serve our clients.
  • What is your email response policy?
Customer service is our #1 priority. We strive to respond to emails within 24-48 hours, and this policy has improved our clients' overall experience.
  • Can I review, ask questions, or make changes to the tax return before you file it?
Absolutely. When we prepare your draft return, we will ask you for feedback, including any changes you may want or questions you may have. We only file the returns once you approve the drafts.
  • What makes Collab CPAs different?
Collab CPAs believe in a year-round approach to taxation. A once-a-year meeting with your CPA is not enough to maximize tax benefits. We'll share our unique approach with you on the call.
  • What is the difference between Tax Planning and Tax Preparation?
Tax Preparation is the compliance portion, which is preparing and filing your tax returns with government agencies. Tax Planning, on the other hand, is an ongoing process of employing various strategies to help minimize the amount you pay in taxes. Comprehensive tax planning includes tax-loss harvesting, charitable giving, business planning, and retirement saving and withdrawal strategies.
  • When are my financial statements ready?
For our monthly accounting services, your financials will be ready by the 15th of the following month.
  • Do you offer audit support?
We will always support our clients through an audit. If the IRS ever questions you about a return our firm prepared, we will review the letter and advise on the action that should be taken.
  • Can you prepare tax returns from previous years?
Yes. We offer catch-up bookkeeping and tax preparation services for previous years. The cost of these services varies. Our CPAs will provide you with an estimated quote before preparing your returns.
  • Is there a minimum contract period for accounting services?
No. Our accounting services are monthly, and you can cancel them at any time. We only ask that you give us a 30-day notice if you wish to cancel our services.
